Romans

The Romans were skilled explorers who came from a place called Rome, in Italy. They sailed across the sea and landed in what is now the UK around 2,000 years ago. The Romans had a massive empire that stretched from Italy to the UK and beyond. They built roads, towns, and fortresses to make their presence felt. Roman soldiers were like real-life superheroes with their helmets and shields. They protected the empire and even brought their own ideas, like straight roads and Roman baths. The Romans introduced beautiful villas with mosaics, where people lived in luxury. Some of these have been discovered in the UK and show us how they used to live. Romans loved to relax in public baths and watch exciting gladiator battles in amphitheatres. The city of Bath, in the UK, is famous for its Roman baths. The Romans built straight roads that we still use today. They left a lasting impact on the UK; from the words we use to the way we build things. Their history is like a puzzle that archaeologists are still piecing together.
