What is it?

This Roman coin, whilst its exact findspot is unknown, is known to have been found in Britain. It is from the reign of Constantius II which lasted from 337-361 which was filled with conflict and mistrust. There was not only conflict with other peoples such as the Germani and the Sasanian Empire but wars with people inside his own empire such as the civil war he fought with Magnetius, a usurper who rose to power in the west, overthrowing and killing Constans, Constantius II's brother. Despite these struggles and constant warfare throughout his reign, Constantius II held strong and was a proud, powerful, and respected leader of the Roman Empire. He was also a good strategist and knew what to do for the welfare of Rome which is demonstrated during the conflict with his cousin, Julian. In 360, Julian was called emperor by his soldiers in Paris which began the civil war between the two cousins. However, Constantius II was ill and knew that once he arrived at the battle he would not be able to fight. With this in mind, he appointed Julian as emperor to avoid any further bloodshed and conflict within the empire. He was a ruler who knew to not only go after what he wanted but what his people needed which made him well-respected and good for his empire.
